The Portland State University - University of Natural Sciences Community-University Engagement Program was established by the generous support of the American people through the Higher Education for Development (HED) office of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

UNS and PSU work together to develop community-university projects focused on strengthening environmental compliance and enforcement, public participation and sustainable urban management.

The University of Natural Sciences (UNS) established the Center for Educational Excellence (CEE). The CEE coordinates the collaboration efforts with Portland State University to integrate the Community-Based Environmental Management and Community-Based Learning content and procedures into UNS courses through a series of faculty exchanges and action research.

The Ho Chi Minh City Environmental Protection Agency (HEPA), the People’s Committee and many other Vietnamese and USA institutions provide support to the program.

Dam Sen Park is the first community organization to host students for work on environmental projects.
